At Elm Tree we believe in teaching skills and knowledge discretely within Art and Design which can then be used in cross-curricular way through whole school art installations, enquiry projects and challenges.
We use Kapow as a curriculum support to enable our teachers to lead high quality art lessons leading to exceptional outcomes. Our assessment is via outcome and evaluation.
Every child from Year 2 has a sketchbook that follows them through the school until they reach Year 6. This allows the children to refer back to previous skills and use their sticky knowledge and revisit our mantra 'I know that so now I can learn this'.
We undertake artist study focusing on key artists and we look at our community to seek out art inspiration.
As a school we are launching a yearly whole school art project. This year we will be doing an outdoor art trail inspired by Mrs Burton's summer visit to the Raveningham Sculpture Trail. The project will be launched in Summer term 20221
