Autumn term Project:
Content to be added soon...
Having managed to plan and organise a visit from Jayne to run some CPR and defibrillator training, the plans were unfortunately scuppered by the new COVID-19 guidance recommending that we do not have visitors on school grounds unless completely unavoidable. Please see below a letter some of the children wrote in preparation for the event (please do not return this letter to school: the event is not happening on those dates):
Due to the efforts put in by all in the year group, we have decided to postpone the event rather than cancelling all together. When we are able to run this session, we will do so.
In the meantime, we will be beginning our next community project unit - creating a memorial areas on school grounds for the fallen heroes who lost their lives in wars.
This term Year Six will be working with Jayne Biggs from Heart2Heart- Norfolk. We are hoping to raise some money for her charity. From her work, she has placed in excess of 250 defibrillators around the local, East Anglian community. Our goal is to raise enough money to help her install one more - we hope not far from the Elm Tree school gates.
Today, the children discussed and conducted a democratic vote as to how they planned on raising the funds. The final decisions were:
- Hosting a Halloween themed bingo night for parents and the local community
- Contacting Jayne to see if she is able to conduct some defibrillator/CPR training for parents and the local community
- Running some form of stall/raffle at the Elm Tree 2021 Christmas Productions
- Organising a challenging, sponsored event (yet to be decided upon)
For these events, the children will be taking full control of the planning and organisation. They will hold year group discussions to make joint, fair decisions and plans for the next steps. The children have already began creating advertisements for some of the earlier events and these will be sent out once completed.
If you are able to donate in any way, however large or small, to our chosen charity, please do not hesitate to contact either Mr Smith, Mrs Chapman or Mrs Chenery on their email address (see below). Alternatively, you can pop into our school office.
Community Project Day 2
The children had a fantastic day working on their community project. Lots of energy and enthusiasm went into writing a letter to people within our local community, inviting them to participate in CPR and defibrillator training. The children also made colourful persuasive posters to advertise the training session. Unfortunately, this organised session has had to be postponed in line with the latest county Covid-19 guidance.
