Children will be given a prodigy login. This is an online game that children duel other children from the class to challenge their Maths knowledge. Each week 5 new questions will be set to answer as they duel. Children can continue to answer questions beyond this that are appropriate for your child’s level. This is set on Monday and closed on Monday. Please ensure that children answer all questions themselves, if not this can alter the types and level of questions they are asked to answer.
All children will have a reading book. We expect that children read at home regularly and at least 3 times a week. The children will read their books twice before changing, once for fluency and once for understanding. To check their understanding ask your child questions about the story. Please ensure you record all your child’s reading in their log. Children will put their book in the box every day, this will be checked daily and changed when appropriate.
Both Year 1 classes have a Reading Race in their classroom where for every read that is logged in their reading book they are moved round the island. Certificates are given for every 10 times and a trophy for 50 reads!
During daily phonics sessions, your child will be learning new sounds and common exception words. Each week these will be sent home to practise along with a day of the week and a number. These will be given out and tested on a Monday.
This will be a creative based homework. This half term we would like the children to create a collage using natural materials i.e. leaves, sticks, flowers etc. This will due in during the last week of half term.
Year 1 Common Exception Words
These are the words we are working on throughout the year for the children to read and spell.
