Year 5's first community project was about tidying up our coast. We began by learning the impact plastic pollution can have on both our local beaches and local marine life. the children were left feeling frustrated by the consequences of people's actions. We decided more needed to be done so we looked into ways to help. We contacted Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) about organising a beach clean-up and they very kindly sent us all of the equipment we would need. The children worked really hard to collect all of the rubbish and were shocked at the things people leave behind at the beach! We even got our group photo in the local newspaper!
