Welcome to Reception (EYFS) at Elm Tree.  At Elm Tree we believe that the reception year is about how children learn as well as what they learn. Children do not develop in a fixed way - their development is like a spider's web with many strands. (Development Matters 2021) 

At Elm Tree we believe that language acquisition is vital and our planning is built upon  high quality texts to facilitate this.  We teach phonics on entry using Read Write Inc - this allows the children to develop their reading and writing skills rapidly. 

At Elm Tree we provide a mix of learning approaches - learning through structured play, by adults modelling, by observing each other, through guided learning and direct teaching. At Elm Tree we are fortunate to have amazing environments both inside and out that allows high quality learning to take place at all times.  Our teaching team enhance these environments with a wide range of challenges and ways for children to invent their own play and develop their independent learning and thinking skills.
