Year 4

In Year 4 we focus on two periods of history.  In the autumn term we build on our knowledge of Ancient civilisations focusing on The Ancient Greeks.  In the summer term we culminate our delve into civilisations that are ancient and from far afield looking at The Mayans and compare them with our British ancient civilisations of Stone Age/Bronze Age/Iron Age.

Autumn - It is all Ancient Greek to me!

In this extended history project the children will build on their knowledge of ancient civilisations by asking questions such as how we can find out about the civilisation of Ancient Greece and can we thank the Ancient Greeks for anything in our lives today?  Expanding our skills in debating and discussion taking pointers from the Ancient Greek Philosophers and great thinkers.

Summer - The Mayans

With our final historical forage into Ancient Civilisations we investigate the Mayans and we launch into our learning journey of British history start by comparing this ancient civilisation with Stone Age Britain.

Linking our historical knowledge with our knowledge of place we look at the Rainforests of South America.  We revisit rivers and introduce the water cycle. We ask questions such as what is this place like?  What makes it distinctive? What kinds of people make this place special?  We consider the human impact of on the rainforest - we ask questions about deforestation and the impact it is having globally?
