York Day 1 2022

York - Day 1

After a very early start, lots of munching on the coach and a services stop to stretch our legs, we arrived in York at 11 am.  It was a short stroll to St Mary's Abbey, where we ate lunch on the lawns. Several trips to the toilets, in the Yorkshire Museum, (a recurring theme of the day!) and we were off for our first scheduled stop.

The Jorvik Centre is an incredible window into Viking Britain. The children hearing about the unpleasant details - largest fossilised poo and moss toilet paper! The ride through the re-constructured town was fascinating - but smelly! Several of the children had a pewter coin stamped to create a Viking coin.

Wandering up the Shambles was lovely, despite a very light drizzle (I don' think the children noticed!). The Shop That Shall Not Be Named ended up being some children's favourite stop of the day. Wizarding duels became the order of the day! Some of the children bought crystal gifts from the Mini Shambles market.

A final stop at York Minister ended the days proceedings. The coach journey to the hotel was calm and quiet - all were tired!

The hotel is fabulous and the staff are super helpful - it's not easy serving 34 children in one sitting!

We can't wait for Day 2!
